Rosacea Treatment With A Laser - Is It Right For Me?

Rosacea treatment runs the gamut from laser treatments to creams and beyond. Which treatment is right for you? The answer depends on a few factors. Let's first take a quick look at what Rosacea is, and how it develops.

If you don't have Rosacea yourself, you may know someone that does and have seen the symptoms of this chronic disease of the skin. People with Rosacea tend to blush easily, and as the disease progresses over time, the skin may become permanently red and may harden somewhat. One common symptom in men is the enlarging, hardening and redness of the nose. The exact cause of this disease is still not known, but the symptoms are caused by the swelling of the blood vessels near the surface of the skin.

The first course of treatment prescribed by a dermatologist is usually a medicated cream designed to reduce the effects of Rosacea. This coupled with a change in diet many times will yield favorable results. If however these treatments don't seem to help at all, laser therapy is the next option to try.

Laser Rosacea treatment consists of exposing the swollen blood vessels that cause the disease to a specific wavelength of laser light that will not harm the skin between the laser and the blood vessels. Effectively the laser light will eliminate the swollen vessels and eliminate the Rosacea. This is how it would happen in a perfect world. In truth, laser therapy is not foolproof. In fact Rosacea laser therapy is not a cure, and you probably will be looking at a lifetime of follow up treatments.

The side effects can be a bit disheartening. As with any laser treatments, these can be a bit harsh. You can expect bruising that may last one to two weeks following therapy, and redness and swelling are very common. For those who are successful with this type of treatment though, the results can be magical.

Expect to pay approximately three hundred to six hundred dollars per session, and the treatments will most likely not be covered by insurance due to the cosmetic nature of the procedure.

If you find that home remedies and creams don't give you the relief you seek from Rosacea, laser therapy is a good next step. As with other skin conditions, Rosacea treatment utilizing a laser can be a miracle. Just make sure to research any potential therapists thoroughly to make sure you get the results you desire.
